On page 50 is the third interview with Chamberlain by the New York Herald's correspondent.
The new governor after listening to the advice of James G. Blaine wanted to bring the militia to the capital
but Chamberlain urged against it. His refusals did not sit well with the Republican leaders.
The good press Chamberlain was getting, along with the negative press Blaine was getting, all
while Blaine was attempting a presidential bid, undoubtedly soured Blaine even more towards Chamberlain.
