Death Certificates

Chamberlain's cause of death reads, "chronic cystitis and chronic posterior urethritis caused originally by gunshot wound." In layman's terms this means chronic infection of the bladder and urethra. The reporting surgeon is Abner O. Shaw, the surgeon of the 20th Maine who Chamberlain credits for saving his life at Petersburg.
The house where Chamberlain lived and died in, 499 Ocean Ave, Portland, is privately owned, but can still be seen today on google street view. The Maltese cross is still on the garage door.
