Though this article came out in May 1901 it appears to have been written sometime before. The speech Chamberlain gave that same month called Not a Sound of Trumpet would contain more information about the men who came to him with the white flag. In this account Chamberlain only describes one of the two riders who brought the flag, a member of General Gordon's staff.
