At left - Letters of recommendation for the Medal of Honor from Alexander S. Webb, Fitz John Porter and Henry B. Cleaves. Includes copies of letters from James C. Rice, James Barnes, Adelbert Ames and Charles Griffin

Fitz John Porter shared Thomas Hubbard's fears that Chamberlain's 1893 sickness might end the General's life. Here Porter states in his application that Chamberlain is, "at any moment likely to be called to a happier home among his many loving departed comrades."
