President Teddy Roosevelt Visits Portland
An incident not mentioned in this newspaper, Diane Smith records, "Chamberlain remained Roosevelt's companion throughout the hours he was feted in Portland,
and when he left the president's car as it prepared to leave Union Station, he was carrying a single rose.
Plucked from one of the bouquets received by the exuberant commander-in-chief that day, he had receive it from
Roosevelt as a keepsake of the occasion."*
